The protector offers a great deal of shock absorption and also good support for your ankles. The difference in height is minimal, so you won't be put of balance, but the difference in traction can take some getting used to, especially if you practice in somewhat slippery floors.
Be prepared for a snug fit; it will feel tight putting it on, but will become more comfortable once you have it on and under way with your practice

Aloha ALL,
I went back to Kendo after an 8 year lay-off due to my job. After my first day of training, did I feel it...especially in my right heel. I ordered this heel protector and when my next day of keiko came, I performed shiai like the "good ol' days"! Also, I noticed that not only did this protector help my heel, it allowed for some very stealthy ashi sabaki! Only "bad thing" , and this may be premature after only one keiko, but it was very tight. I am sure it will "break in" after more use, but If you order this one and want to be on the safe side, go a larger size for sure. God bless, and mahalo e-bogu!
