Now, obviously during hard practice, oiling can save you a lot, this is an excellent weight bokken if you are interested in the physics of a live Katana without bo-bi, and as a Kenjutsu/Bottajutsu practice weapon, is is grand. It also handles impacts extremely well. The tsuba tends to be related to the luck of the draw, as the tsuba on mine was quite tight, and if used in proper form (aside from popping our of a saya) you will not really touch the tsuba, and it will not move from swings. It is a little bulkier than a usual bokken, which better imitates sword feel, but makes you ill prepared for the grip of a Shinai, and as such, is likely not an ideal piece for Kendo Kata, although, for Iai, I can imagine no better Bokuto.

The finish is very nice and I like the weight. Some bokken I've used are way too heavy but this one is nice.

Pros: Until you look closely at the grain you wouldn't believe it's red oak. Very solid piece, good weight to it. Takes light impact well, no denting so far. Stain looks more of a dark brown with a slightly red tint, very well done. I'd expect it to cost more.
Cons: Where the tsuba would be (comes with a plastic one), you can see light marks from the saw used to create the bokken. Can't see it with tsuba in place. This is normal for bokkens at this price though. Plastic tsuba hardly fits. Think round hole, square peg. Rubber stopper often must be pushed back down to keep tsuba from rattling around. Luckly I don't need it often. This is the only reason for only 4 stars.

when this fine piece of training equipment arrived at my door, i knew i was in for a treat. The overall weight of the bokken closely resembles the actual weight of a katana. I am very pleased with this product, as i can tell it was manufactored with precision. The overall look and feel of the wood is magnificent and the smell that eminates from it is rejuvinating. Click add to cart right this moment, you will not regret it at all.
