What is Hanpu Fabric?

Hanpu fabric is a plain weave high quality Japanese cotton yarn that is commonly known as “canvas.” The material was originally used as sails on boats during the Muromachi Period where Oda Nobunaga used Hanpu as sails for his boats. Since then, the fabric has been the choice for sails until the late 19th century. Hanpu fabric was a great alternative compared to other expensive materials such as leather at the time since Hanpu is light, durable and affordable. After the start of the Meiji period, the fabric became a core material in manufacturing products that were used on the daily basis such as delivery bags, student bags, uniforms, canopies, banners, cloth strainers for sake, and etc. It has been said that the invention of Hanpu and its usefulness in society has fueled Japan’s rapid industrial and economic growth.

Great gi July 11, 2014
Reviewer: Byron Rincon from Seagoville, Texas
I own a Tokaido gi and a Toyo gi. I imported the Tokaido from Japan. I bought the FC2000 just before the MFC12 went for sale.

After using the FC2000 I couldn't help but buy the MFC12. It is right on point with my Japanese gi's in terms of quality and fit, but in some ways better.

The MFC12 fits and feels much better than the already great FC2000. Much better cut and quality. Very lightweight and airy, perfect for year round training, especially summer time. Hard gi to beat for full contact martial artists. Rugged, comfortable and great for dynamic movements.

I got embroidery on mine, Kenpo kanji on the chest and my name in katakana on the lapel and pants. It turned out great.

Alex assisted me every step of the way before and during the ordering process. I really feel he went the extra mile for me.

I must say I prefer the MFC12 over all my high end gi's.

Considering the cost, fit, quality and performance. This is the #1 gi I recommend to my students.

Take something great and make it even better! July 2, 2014

When I saw they were making an improved version I was very interested.
I was told this was closer to Japanese sizing so I got a 6 which is a better fit than the older FC2000 6
The first thing to note is the jacket is a new cut and made of a higher grade but still comfortable canvas/cotton blend. Still has the very well made reinforced stitching(handy if you are in Enshin or another style that has throws involved) and the shorter but still past the elbow sleeves.
The nice thing is that the new cut keeps the jacket top more secure and less prone to open up as it did on the older FC2000 model. The pants are just about the same but I am not sure if it is due to the better sizing or they change the cut slightly but they feel better and the kicks seem easier too.

On a 1-10 scale I would give this model a 9 based on price, quality, and functionality.
