No real medial/lateral support |

Medial/lateral injuries can occur (resulting in torn ligaments) if you happen to have your foot on the groundy while you turn around. This can happen when turning around after following through with a men cut.
From the picture it looks like there is medial/lateral support (ie posts running down the sides of the knee). These posts are normally metal. The ones here are in fact not made of metal. They are just sponge/neoprean.
They may give you proprioceptive response (ie reminds you) to not twist your leg laterally, but they won't help you once it happens.
