"This is our newest extra thick Shinai. BIZEN TOKUSEN. We designed this Shinai based on our existing BIZEN and the Shinai that I got from Takahashi Sensei from Kyoto, Japan. Takahashi Sensei and I fought at the 11th World Kendo Championships in Santa Clara, CA. I am sure people with larger hands would be very happy with this Shinai. The most challenging thing about the design of this Shinai was to keep the good balance of the Shinai, although the amount of Bamboo is larger compared to our other Shinais. We tried placing the balance towards the handle side, which makes the Shinai feel light, just like Takahashi Sensei's Shinai."  Taro Ariga CEO (Kendo Kyoshi 7 Dan)

Our TOKUSEN Shinais are made in our factory with the top level of quality control, and testing for better performance and durability.

Our TOKUSEN Series Shinais are made from a batch of selected Top Quality MADAKE Bamboos. We carefully hand pick the selected bamboos, and each bamboo goes through a rigorous inspection process.

These bamboos are then cut into correct sizes, dried and stored waiting to be transformed into Shinais.

Shinai Making process:

Heat and pressure are applied to the bamboo pieces, in order to make it softer and to be adjusted to be straight.

Each Bamboos is hand placed on a machine to fix the shape.

The Bamboo is placed on the cutter, in order to make the shape of the Shinai.

Then the Bamboo piece is placed on a sanding machine to produce the 45 degrees angle.

Another sanding machine is used to give the touch to the corners of the bamboo pieces.

Then the 4 pieces of Bamboo are placed together and inserted into another sanding machine for the final touch.

Final detailed waxing of the Shinai to give a nice luster to the shinai.

Disappointing August 21, 2014
Reviewer: Thom from Paris, FRANCE France
I purchased two of this Shinai online (delivered to at EKC in France this year).

First, my Sensei (Japanese) told me that the
take were not dry (differences in color) and that I would have to be carefull... So, I prepared it carrefully...

I then started using the first one for suburi (great grip). After a few sesions, I then started using it during geiko. Then, after 2 trainings, 2 take pieces of the 4 already cracked on the thickness part (not on the side!). Believe me, I was training my "cut", and not "hammering"
What should I do with my second Bizen? and by the way I also purchase a Tosa...  shall I leave it in the water for a while?

Great shinais February 10, 2014
Reviewer: Gaetan Corneau from St-Etienne-de-Lauzon, QC Canada
But handle, exactly as I like, great balance, good price, and fast shipping.
One small thing, though: I ordered two shinais, but I forgot to ask for matching bamboo knots (for later repair) so they don't match.

Thick grip January 29, 2014
Reviewer: Key
I brought Bizen to get thick grip shinai, and it is really thick lol
But I like it because the gravity is close to right hand and easy to control shinai.

Make sure you cannot use regular size of tsuba for this. You need to get another tsuba with big hole or enlarge your tsuba to fit this.
