Very good. April 14, 2011

For traditional training purposes in kata and light-contact sparring, it has been exceptional. It does not match the weight of a naginata in the least but it does help you learn the basic movements.

It has been through many immature dueling sessions with my senpai and I even using full-force three sectional staff swings. It is not flimsy. It now has black paint stains over it, but it is still quite smooth. The tsuba did break off though.

For Katori Shinto Ryu two person kata, it also proved exceptional. Full force blows, if used correctly, should never dent the wood. I have used it enough in 6 years to know that it was worth the price I paid for it.

Full-force sparring just for fun can very easily damage it to a person who is not trained in Iaido or Naginata-do. Unless you're swinging it at a tree, I see no problems with two trained, learned practitioners sparring with it at full force.

Make sure it avoids too much moisture and oil it if needed when in high-moisture areas.

Very Sturdy December 17, 2008

This is a great tool, I received mine today and it is very sturdy.  The grain pattern is good and beautiful, and if you just know even Bo or Eku kata, this becomes a wonderful tool.
Good quality for the low price, cheapest on the 'net.

kind of flimsy, and the one i got has a bad grain pattern.  I know if i hit anything with it, it's going to snap in two.  but it'll work for suburi and kata.  may not be worth as much as you have to pay.
