This is another innovation by E-BOGU.COM.
Yaezakura is Dobari Shinai that has an Octagonal and Oval shape handle. The Dobari shape, gives the Shinai the feeling the the weight is closer to the Tsuka area, giving the impression that this Shinai is light.

The Hakkaku (Octagonal) shape, gives the sense that is holding a Sword, and it is easier to tell if the grip is a little twisted. Also, the oval Tsuka (handle) is on both left and right hand.

This Shinai comes completely assembled with leather parts.

This is the New Line of TOKUSEN (Specially Selected) Series of our Madake Shinais. The shape of the Shinais is based on our most popular Shinais, but it is made of hand picked MADAKE Bamboos. Each four parts of the Shinai is made of thick meat bamboo, and hand shaved for the best balance.

Our TOKUSEN Shinais are made in our factory with the top level of quality control, and testing for better performance and durability.

39 465-500 Dobari 2.8cm 4.2cm 2.5x3.1cm 2.3x2.9cm 63.5 cm

Our TOKUSEN Series Shinais are made from a batch of selected Top Quality MADAKE Bamboos. We carefully hand pick the selected bamboos, and each bamboo goes through a rigorous inspection process.

These bamboos are then cut into correct sizes, dried and stored waiting to be transformed into Shinais.

Shinai Making process:

Heat and pressure are applied to the bamboo pieces, in order to make it softer and to be adjusted to be straight.

Each Bamboos is hand placed on a machine to fix the shape.

The Bamboo is placed on the cutter, in order to make the shape of the Shinai.

Then the Bamboo piece is placed on a sanding machine to produce the 45 degrees angle.

Another sanding machine is used to give the touch to the corners of the bamboo pieces.

Then the 4 pieces of Bamboo are placed together and inserted into another sanding machine for the final touch.

Final detailed waxing of the Shinai to give a nice luster to the shinai.

Shinai quality including bamboo, balance, and feeling of grip was very good. However, the quality of ken-saki was pretty bad. It was needed to replace because its texture was very rough surface like towel. It was disappointed.

this is an excellent shinai. Perfect balance. Grip is wonderful--  sort of guiding you to grip properly--like an oval grip or a real sword's grip. Worth every single penny you pay

Yaezakura January 25, 2014

So far this is my favorite octagonal shinai available (considering price, quality and production/lead time). There are some places that do handmade octagonal shinai which are expensive and have a lead time of a couple weeks. I use oval grip but sometimes there is still the possibility of rotating the shinai especially if the tsuka is not tight. I like the balance of this shinai and only wish there was a bamboo only option. I would recommend buying especially while the introductory price is still available. Even if you don't like it for regular practice you might enjoy the grip for doing suburi.
