OWARI Shinais are made based on a real Katana (Japanese Sword). The length and weight is similar to a Size 37 Shinai. This Shinai has a curved shape that is similar to a Katana, and the entire Shinai is Oval Shape. When holding, it resembles a real Sword. "I use this shinai during practices at my Dojo. The Shinai being shorter than the usual adult size 39 Shinai, makes you think more about the Maai (distance to the opponent) and be more careful when attacking the opponent. I feel that my Seme (Attack) has improves since I started using this Shinai. The curve on the Shinai, gives the impression of holding a real Sword, and makes the Suriage and the Kaeshi Wazas easier. We have been practicing gekiken at our Aikido Dojo. Before these shinai, we were using bokken. These Shinai have allowed us to practice much harder and more safely, while not sacrificing too much. Well built good Shinai!

Balance,feel ,weight,amazing, I am only disappointed I can't use it for Kenjitsu randori, it hits like a slightly bendy boken,a bone breaker for sure,kubi kiri might be fatal. that aside,I love the look, it handles so well, everyone should own one, the closest shinai to shinken my limited experience has brought to me

This is my first shinai, and it arrived today. It is heavier then a regular standard shinai, and thicker. When you strike, it makes a deep *whooshing* sound, akin to a flag snapping in the wind. Granted, it's not as light, but it makes you move closer to your target, and every strike you plan and take will be calculated better.
I look forward to using it in my Kendo class.

This is a wonderful shinai. It basically forces you to use kihon kendo and big waza in order to make an effective cut. The shape and weight teach you a lot more about using a katana than a normal shinai does. Dare I hope they become regulation some day?
