I just started Kendo and since I wasn't required to purchase bogu just yet this set sounded great to me. The bokken is surprisingly of higher quality than expected. Solid with nice weight but the handle is shorter than I'm used to in Iaido. I measured it around 9.5". The kendogi is my first but compared to my karate gi, it feels comfortable without hindering movement. The tie in front is higher than I'm used to but it keeps the kendogi closed. The hakama is comfortable but kind of thin in my opinion but still feels sturdy. The inside pleats are stitched which makes folding easy. I've never used a shinai and it is wildly different from a bokken. It almost feels like it will fall apart but has a good solid feel when striking. Shinai bag is appealing and works. The budo bag and DVD are bonuses. The bag feels thin but is a great little bag to have around and the DVD augments what I have been learning. Except for bogu, this set has everything I needed for my particular school.
