5 of 5 Very noticable difference July 12, 2013

The weight may be less than half a men's 39 shinai, but the increase in moment of inertia is huge if you put it at the tip. If you do suburi with this thing, you will notice a significant difference in resistance and your shinai will feel much lighter when you take it off. I feel like extra weight helps me make a large arc, so it's nice to swing with this sometimes to practice that.

It attaches very securely and I did not get the impression that it would come off while swinging.

5 of 5 Great Product October 8, 2012

Great product has definitely improved my strike speed, accuracy, and strength.  I would recommend to people that you start with very slow and deliberate strike motions before you get to full speed.  Took me about a week before I could do so accurately.  Definitely worth your 20.00 dollars.

5 of 5 Surprisingly Effective April 24, 2011
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from SLC, Utah
Before purchasing the suburiko I was worried that it would fly off of the shinai while swinging, or that the weight difference would be unnoticeable.  Since it has arrived, however, I'm very pleased to see that I was wrong in both respects.

The suburiko attaches very snugly onto the shinai and the leather parts aid in preventing it from flying off.  It is also noticeably heavier when it is on the tip of the shinai and is great for swinging practice.  If that's too heavy for you, then it can easily be moved towards the handle to reduce the resistance.  Overall, I am extremely happy with this product!

5 of 5 Really helps April 27, 2006

This is a small weight so does not impose significant strain on your elbows, but is enough of a weight to provide good resistence. You WILL notice how much lighter your shinai feels after using it a few times.

To decrease the weight, just put it lower on your shinai.

It is also less clumsy than trying to put 2 shinai together and swing them at the same time.
