The World Kendo Championships (WKC) is the largest Kendo event that is held every three years, hosted in one of the three zones, the Asian Zone, the American Zone, and the European Zone. The host for the 2003 WKC is the city of Glasgow, Scotland. The 12th World Kendo Championships (12WKC) hosted 42 participating countries. It was held during July 4 ~ 6, at Kelvin Hall, in Glasgow. WKC is sponsored by the International Kendo Federation (IKF).

On July 4, there was an official visit to the Championships by Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh.

This Video/DVD has been produced by Koby Shimada (Koby Pictures), the director who produced Kendo Principles I, II and III, released by e-bogu.com Inc. in 2003. This is the first WKC video narrated in English, with detailed explanation of many of the points scored during the matches. Slow motion pictures of point scoring are also shown for better understanding. All WKC matches follow the International Kendo Federation Rules. For better understanding of Kendo rules and point scoring system, please refer to Kendo Principles I, II and III.

Part 1 shows the main matches for the first day of the championships. On July 4, the world top skilled women compete in the women's individual and team competition. Over 120 participated in the women's individual competition, all of them who went through extensive training in order to proudly represent their home countries. Twenty-one teams participate in the women's team competition. There is a Nihon Kendo Kata demonstration in between the matches by M. Shimano Hanshi 8th Dan and E. Taguchi Hanshi 8th dan. The competition is a full day event. The video is divided in two sections. First section contains the highlights of the preliminary matches, by showing the best matches and points scored, and later the semi-finals and the final matches.
